Citrix – License Server Update Required by March 31, 2023
Citrix recently announced that later this year their Cloud Software Group will begin requiring the collection of limited license telemetry data from Citrix on-premises products, which will help customers avoid license compliance issues and better enable Citrix to respond to customer needs.
The data collected will be limited to the telemetry data necessary to confirm license compliance and managed through the Citrix License Server. Citrix has created documentation that details the new Licensing Telemetry program and the data elements being collected. This is available at https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/licensing/current-release/license-server/licensing-data-collection-programs.html#citrix-licensing-compliance.
Customers are required to update to the latest version of the Citrix License Server by March 31, 2023, and continue regular updates of license server software within six months of new license server releases. Deploying the new license server is straightforward and designed to not impact production or non-production systems. These releases are compatible with LTSR or CR deployments. The latest version is available for download here: https://www.citrix.com/downloads/licensing/license-server/license-server-version-111720-42000-for-windows.html
This release enables automatic license telemetry reporting to Citrix. For Citrix License Servers that are unable to connect to the internet, Citrix also offers the option of manually reporting licensing telemetry data to Citrix. To enable manual reporting, please follow this process: https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX472950/how-to-manually-upload-telemetry-data-to-cis
If you are a fully cloud service customer without an on-premises License Server, this update does not apply to you and no action is required.
