Action required for server-side iManage WCSE Integration with Exchange Online / Office 365
Description of Problem
Effective February 2025, iManage WCSE will no longer be able to file emails from mailboxes in Office 365 when using the User credential configuration for OAuth2. iManage Work Communications Server for Exchange (WCSE) must use OAuth2 when connecting to Office 365. App credential is the recommended configuration for that connection, as opposed to the commonly used User credential configuration. We recommend App credential because Microsoft will decommission Application Impersonation in February 2025.
Affected Configurations
WCSE machines connecting to Exchange Online via User Credential configuration are affected. To determine whether User Credential is currently used, perform the following steps:
- Open the service manager on the WCSE machine
- Highlight the Communications Server service and select Properties à Service Properties
- In the resulting dialog, select Advanced
- If User credential is selected, the machine is affected and action is required. If App Credential is selected, no further action is necessary.
Also note that if you leverage Client Side filing with the Work 10 client, no further action is necessary.
What Customers Should Do
iManage has documented the steps required to apply the App Credential configuration to the iManage WCSE here: https://help.imanage.com/hc/en-us/articles/30715017656347-Configuring-iManage-Work-Communications-Server-for-Exchange-to-use-OAuth2-App-Credential-authorization
These steps must be performed prior to February 2025.
Customers can also transition fully to Client Side email filing with the Work 10 Desktop client before February 2025 to avoid the necessary changes to the WCSE machine.
Please let Kraft Kennedy know if you need assistance with these steps.
