Is Office XP ready for prime time?
The
conversion from WordPerfect to Word generally does not meet with
enthusiastic responses from most legal secretaries and
attorneys. Most view the conversion as a business decision,
not a functional enhancement to their document production. Will
Office XP reward the early adopters and convince the remaining
WordPerfect zealots that Word is a viable document production
suite?

KKL Software's new ezAdmin
Facing
increasing PC support costs, many firms choose to restrict the
system functions available to end users. Typically, users are
prevented from installing or running unauthorized programs,
browsing network files, editing the registry, or modifying the
hardware configuration of the workstation. While protecting the
end user from making costly mistakes, locking-down the desktop
makes it difficult for IS support staff to diagnose and fix many
desktop problems. KKL Software’s recently released ezAdmin
eliminates many of these support headaches.

Microsoft discontinues upgrade licensing programs as of Sept 28
Software licensing will never be the same. In an attempt to
streamline the maze of software options, Microsoft is
introducing a new program called Software Assurance that will
ultimately simplify the licensing process. Depending on the
number of users, types of Microsoft programs, and servers, you
may be eligible for one of three licensing programs – Open,
Select, and Enterprise. Once you have identified the particular
program that fits your firm and are current with its licensing
requirements, then by subscribing to the Software Assurance
program you will receive any new versions of the product that
are released during the term of the agreement.
But, making the transition to the new licensing programs may be
costly if you do not act by September 28, 2001. As of that
date, all software upgrade programs that allowed firms to
purchase licenses at a reduced price will be discontinued.
Version Upgrades (VUP) and Product Upgrades (PUP) will no longer
be available. Competitive Upgrades (CUP) were discontinued in
May. If you have not purchased Upgrade Advantage for your
existing licenses, then when you want to upgrade to Office XP,
as an example, you will have to purchase a completely new
license. Evaluating your economic options in this maze of
offerings can be confusing. KKL would be happy to answer any
questions you may have and assist in your evaluation. For more
info check
Microsoft’s licensing web site, or better yet, give KKL a
call.

Sending to selected people on a distribution
list in Outlook 2000
There may be
times when you need to email most but not all of the people on a
distribution list. Rather than copy and edit the origin
distribution list, here are helpful hints to send an email to a

Is your content secure?
Security is
an increasingly important part of a law firm’s computer systems.
Recent intrusions of high profile company networks and web sites,
and virus explosions have focused the attention of network
administrators and IS directors on the security capabilities of
their computer systems. Most firms realize the need to have a
firewall between their network and the Internet. However, additional
measures are necessary to provide the highest level of confidence
and security. One of these measures is content security. more...

Month's Answer
To
forward a CallXpress voice message over the Internet, simply open
the voice message in Outlook, and click on the 'Forward' (not 'Voice
Forward') button on the top button bar. This will convert the sound
file to a standard .wav file which will be able to be played by the
recipient. Complete the rest of the e-mail as normal, and send!
