Reworking Your Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plans

With the memory of September 11th still fresh in our minds, businesses are reassessing their disaster recovery and business continuity plans to reflect a new reality. No longer are these plans just a binder to put on a shelf, these plans now represent alternate ways to conduct business. Over the coming months we will be highlighting technologies and techniques to consider as you develop your disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

This month we focus on alternate backup strategies using data replication software from NSI Software. NSI’s DoubleTake replicates data to another server located at a different physical site. Wireless LAN – the Ultimate Mobility for Laptop Users

Panacea or a problem, wireless local area networks (LAN) provide the ultimate mobility for laptop users. Based on pattern-recognition technology developed after years of research with dolphins, DolphinSearch reads and indexes documents while recognizing the meaning of words based on the context in which they are used. This innovative software is now being used as a powerful litigation search engine. DolphinSearch’s Litigation Support Suite provides document standardization which converts all documents to one format, usually TIFF or PDF. It then indexes both document text and metadata. The Suite also includes a discovery triage service that creates semantic profiles which substantially automate the process of finding responsive and privileged documents. For more info …

Who is looking at your data?

With the constant flood of news about security breaches, Internet security and the secure transmission of documents and data have become major issues for most organizations. Due to the speed and convenience of attaching files to e-mails or remotely accessing your firm’s network to retrieve a document, firms now face an increased security risk as sensitive data passes through the Internet. Virtual Private Networks (VPN) offer hardware and software solutions that protect access and encrypt data as it passes through the Internet. Products recently announced by CISCO have made the implementation of VPNs significantly easier and more affordable. For more info …
